Chainalysis CCI Programme

Overview

The Chainalysis CCI Programme takes practitioners from first principles to Chainalysis Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator over six weeks. It opens with three weekly online foundation sessions, moves into two consecutive days of instructor-led investigation training built around the Chainalysis Reactor toolset and the CCI examination, and closes with a field debrief once the methodology has been taken back to live casework. No prior blockchain experience is required to begin.

Upon completion, practitioners will be able to run a cryptocurrency investigation end to end in Chainalysis Reactor - establishing attribution, following funds across chains, and producing findings that hold up in compliance and evidential contexts.

Course Modules

What You Will Learn

Two hours online. Where cryptocurrency came from and the problem it set out to solve, how a blockchain actually works, and the terminology you will meet for the rest of the programme. Closes with a map of the wider ecosystem - exchanges, custodians, mixers and the services that sit between them. No prior blockchain knowledge is assumed.

Two hours online. The difference between coins and tokens and why it matters to an investigation, the main asset types, and what smart contracts and DeFi protocols do to the movement of funds. You will follow value across a chain and read what a transaction actually records.

Two hours online. The techniques used to break a trail - mixing services, chain-hopping, peel chains, layering through exchanges - and the patterns that give them away. This session is the bridge into the certification block: the behaviours introduced here are the ones you will trace in Reactor.

Eight hours, instructor-led. A repeatable methodology for cryptocurrency investigation, applied to UTXO-based blockchains. Attribution, clustering and the evidential questions that decide whether a finding holds up. Worked as case studies in Chainalysis Reactor rather than demonstrated.

Eight hours, instructor-led. The same methodology against account-based chains, where balances rather than outputs carry the story, including tokens and contract interactions. The day is built around extended casework, ending with an investigation run end to end.

Completed in your own time after Phase 2. Open book. Exam access and Chainalysis certification are included in the programme fee - there is no separate examination charge.

Two hours online, a fortnight after certification, once the methodology has met real casework. The agenda comes from the cohort: the cases that proved awkward, the questions that only surface in the field, and developments worth knowing about since the training.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need a technical background to join?

No. Phase 1 exists precisely to build the blockchain grounding the certification block assumes, over three weekly sessions. If cryptocurrency turns up in your casework, your compliance processes or your caseload as a lawyer or regulator, you have enough context to start.

How is this different from the Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator (CCI) course?

The CCI course runs as five modules in a single intensive week at the A&D Forensics Lab, and is certified either by A&D Forensics or by Blockchain Intelligence Group. This programme is delivered over several weeks in three phases, is built around the Chainalysis Reactor toolset, and leads to Chainalysis certification. Both produce a working cryptocurrency investigator; they differ in schedule, tooling and who certifies you.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?
